FCD Prevention Consultant

FCD is a pioneer in the area of comprehensive prevention planning, and more and more schools are recognizing the critical importance of developing long-term, multi-faceted approaches to preventing substance abuse and creating a healthy community. The demand for FCD's consulting services in this area is growing, and we are looking for experienced prevention specialists to help us serve our growing client base.

The prevention consultant position involves extensive travel since the majority of our work is done onsite at schools throughout the U.S. and around the world. For a new client school, the prevention consultant would typically carry out a preliminary evaluation of their current substance abuse prevention programs, policies, and procedures. Over the course of multiple visits, you would conduct a needs assessment to target priorities; recommend strategies and structures to strengthen the effectiveness of the school's approach; guide the implementation of a comprehensive prevention plan; and provide ongoing support and monitoring.

Additionally, you might present workshops or speak on behalf of FCD at national and international conferences; conduct substance abuse evaluations; and administer and interpret normative beliefs and other FCD surveys.

The ideal candidate will have a background in substance abuse prevention, health education, counseling, group facilitation, teaching, consulting, and/or school administration. Familiarity with the independent and international school communities is valued. Work experience that provides a broad and deep understanding of school life—such as a school head or dean of students or faculty—can be an asset. Educational background in fields such as psychology, counseling, school administration, education, and/or substance abuse prevention is desirable. Advanced degrees are a plus, as you will be advising well-credentialed decision makers in the schools you visit.

This position could be ideal for a consultant already working in the field, or for someone who wishes the flexibility of a part-time schedule. Over time, however, the possibility exists for full-time work.
